Starting My Largest Painting Yet (Pomegranate part 1)

I’ve got a new idea that I want to paint. I’ve been letting it spin around in my head for a while and now it's time to let it out.

I’m sketching to get the basic composition out. Two pomegranate trees. I know I’m going to want to have some small animals around them eating the fruit… but those will come much later.

This is going to be my biggest painting yet, 4 by 6 feet. But firs I do a small color study. I think this one is going to be strong in the primary colors: Yellow, Red, Blue.

Now to build the large canvas.

And finally I loosely block in the painting.

It’s just the beginning.
