Framing Guide
Let the frame compliment your artwork and space.
Do you need to mat your artwork?
Prints - Optional. I normally mat prints. If the print is large and I want it to look like the original painting then I will not use a mat.
Drawings - Yes, I recommend using a mat.
Paintings - No. Unless it is a painting on paper or loose canvas, then it is optional.
Do you need to frame your artwork?
I recommend framing most artwork
If a painting is gallery wrapped (meaning the canvas wraps around all of the sides of the painting) it does not need to be framed.
There are 3 basic options you can choose from depending on your budget.
$ Standard Size Frame and/or Mat
Works with artwork that is a standard size like 4x6 or 16x20
You can purchase these frames and mats at places like Target and your local art store.
$$ Custom Mat That Fits A Standard Frame
If your artwork is not a standard size you can get a custom mat that fits into a standard frame
(For example, if you have a print that is 4x5.5 inches you can get a custom mat that has a 4x5.5 inch hole in the middle but fits into a standard 8x10 frame.)
custom mats also come in a variety of colors that you usually can’t find with standard mats in stores.
You can purchase custom mats from you local frame shop.
$$$ Custom Framing
You can get exactly what you want with custom framing.
The variety and combinations of frames, mats, and glasses are endless.
