From Palette to Canvas: Watch my Process

I love paint. Seeing what it can do. How it moves under my brush, under my palette knife.

I’m working on a painting that is of a persimmon tree and I’m going to be adding crows feasting on the fruit. I find myself moving into a style that is more impressionistic than I ever have before. So I’m wanting to paint for the impression of autumn when persimmons are in season, the vibrant orange, yellow, and reddish fruit, and the movements of the birds. Right now that impression feels like rich thick colorful paint strokes.

I’m assuming this painting is going to take months to complete. Especially with needing to have thick layers of paint dry before adding more. I’ll have to start a new painting or drawing in my series of ‘They Might Be Gods’ to work on during the dry times. So stay tuned for something new starting soon.
