The Unveiling
Spring’s Completed Artwork
Fruit Of The Gods
Persimmons symbolize transformation. They ripen after the first frost, sweetness through struggle. And then the crows come.
To some, crows represent wisdom, intelligence, and transformation. To others, they signal death, decay, or the role of the scavenger.
Like Persimmons, a story ripens in its own time. I don’t want to tell you what the crows mean. I only want to ask: what do you see when they arrive?
May this painting leave room for your own myth to enter.
Study of a Sleeper
This is a pen and ink study for a much larger painting to come.
On The Easel
Winter’s Works In Progress
This work in progress is of twin pomegranate trees.
I’ve decided to rework the color story of this painting from the original concept. I hope to show more in the summer months.
This is the very beginning of me catching lightening in a bottle.
I explain a bit more of this down below in my ‘Seasonal Inspiration’. But, I find the phrase, catching lightening in a bottle, so intriguing. In a fever dream that phrase came to life and I had to paint it.
Seasonal Inspiration
This spring I got to wander through England.
Everything was in bloom. What really caught my eye was the trees and vines against mossy stones and brick walls. It reminded me of my painting, walled paradise and the black butterfly. I hoping to make some more paintings with the same themes.
Traveling back home I ended up getting Covid. I had many extremely vivid fever dreams. One of my dreams inspired a new painting that I’m working on right now called, ‘lightening in a bottle’. I’m hoping to finish this painting and start others from my fever dreams.
Studio Musings
I’ve been thinking about my past work, new work that I want to make, and what specifically I want the viewer to get when they look at the art. The through line I’m finding is that I like to have a beautiful image with a mysterious twist. I want the viewer to feel like the chosen one, as if they have stumbled upon an ambiguous secret or mystery that they then can fill in with their own myths.
In my past works I have been pretty subtle with the mysterious twists in my paintings but now I want to try and really pull them out.
